Class action
Class action is a collective lawsuit aiming to provide compensation for mass damage. Mass damage involves large numbers of victims who have a dispute with one or a limited number of parties who (potentially) caused the damage. This refers to a dispute where the litigators share the same or similar factual and legal issues. The degree of commonality in the factual and legal issues may vary, and will typically be related to the nature of the damage-causing event. Examples of class actions in the Netherlands include: The Dieselgate, the Interest-Rate Swap Scandal, Groningen gas drilling, and the “Woekerpolis” usurious investment-insurance policy scandal.
